Lost liberty and ungratefulness

Warning: Post related to writer's spiritual interpretation based on Christianity. If you are adverse to Christianity, you may want to skip the read today, thanks.

Have you ever wondered why we lost our freedoms? Where this great experiment called America went wrong? It is not surprising that we are no longer a free and sovereign people, you know. There are two ways of looking at the issue, and today I want to explore the spiritual one.

“The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”

When a group of people get blessed, they tend to become lazy and selfish. It goes back 1000's of years. It was even predicted by God Himself when He warned His people of the danger of becoming ungrateful. Being ungrateful leads to prideful thoughts and prideful thoughts lead to thinking you are self-made and the blessings you have are directly related to your own doing. Your own strength, your own mental acuity, and/or your own talent was what got you blessed and if your think this way, it follows that your blessing(s) is not linked to the Almighty, your relationship to Him and His mercy.

Deuteronomy 8:13,14,17,19 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied.. Then thine heart be lifted up and thou forget the Lord thy God which brought three forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;...And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth....and it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

On the one hand, we can see many areas that we lost our way in, such as allowing certain amendments to the Constitution. But on the other hand, we also lost our way on our spiritual path. Of the first people to sail across the ocean seeking freedom, many had come out of spiritual bondage, being told how they must worship. (Yes, I know the arguments concerning the native Americans and such, but this post does not deal with the injustice they had to bear.) Here in the New World, they were able to pursue God as they saw fit in their our conscience and not as one church or the “State” dictated. Do you think they were grateful?

As the new states were formed, you can see our heritage of honoring God in each state's constitution. Even our federal Constitution relies on the Jewish and Christian traditions of truth and morality and gave honor to God. Prayer was common and still to this day, many governing bodies open with it, albeit to the chagrin on the atheists.

Those that fought the battle for freedom from England called upon God to help them. It took great courage and a granite resolve that they were doing the moral and right thing before God and all of mankind to rebel, and to give their lives in the fight against the tyranny that held them in bondage. And they made certain that they addressed the issues according to the moral and proper procedure, thus keeping a clear conscience before God and man. It was only when King George would not acknowledge their petitions, and the injustice they suffered became intolerable that they understood there was no peaceful options left and began the rebellion. (And in order to again fight this battle today, we will need to understand that we are morally called upon to fight tyranny; that it is our duty before God. But will we come to understand this when most preachers have been indoctrinated into believing that rebellion against the state is rebellion against God? When so many scholars of the Word of God cannot rightly divide it?

Over the years, we as a people were blessed and we grew fat and selfish, not to be confused with self-sufficient, but full of ourselves and we were not vigilant to give thanks to God and diligent to teach our children about Him and the true reasons this nation came to be. We grew lazy and forgot that we needed the Lord and His blessing upon our work, upon our sovereign states. We lost our grateful attitudes and our diligence. We stopped seeking Him and stopped trying to please Him in all our ways.

We, the common people, allowed ourselves to be brainwashed into thinking the “experts” had the answers and we did not have the capacity to understand the way of the world, to teach our own children, to run for office, or even to understand the issues we face. We allowed our history to be re-written and we allowed our children to be taught by others, by those with an agenda. We allowed our children to be indoctrinated into this mentality of thinking that only a few gifted people are capable of understanding the Constitution and the way the world works. Even Naomi Wolf, who is well-educated and now is the author of The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot, says she felt separated from the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. To her credit she acknowledges that she had to ask a lawyer friend to explain due process to her. She relates that we are told not to worry about liberty, that we have a special class of people who will take care of that for us. (Please view Naomi relate this and other things you may need to hear at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjALf12PAWc) And so in our ungrateful, selfish and lazy state, we have let them – the self-proclaimed experts, take care of our liberties. And we are now enslaved.

Those who were power hungry devised ways to get more power for themselves and they were diligent and they were successful. Our representative republic was slowly dissolved before our very eyes without our notice, for we did not understand what we were losing. It took time, many years in fact, but now we are very close to the end of even the illusion that we are free as the ptb are running faster than ever before to ensure their absolute control over we the people. How long will it be before we are not able to post thoughts such as these? How long will it be before you will not have the right to choose what you put into your body? (Even now there are mandates being debated to force you to take the H1N1 vaccination.)

I propose the first step into the slow slide of liberty lost began with our becoming lax in our giving of thanks to the Lord, of not being diligent to remember His ways, His works, and His word, to hide them first in our own hearts and then to be diligent to speak of them to our children “when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of they house and on thy gates. (Deuteronomy 6:6-9) That scripture gives us the clear picture that we must be constantly reminded of God, His blessings and His ways, that we must be determined to walk in them, and not be slack at any point in our day.

The second step was forgetting the price that was paid for our freedoms and being thankful for the men and women who sacrificed their lives and fortunes, who pledged their sacred honor to the cause of liberty. As it is often said, if we do not learn from history we are bound to repeat it. We have a great need to learn from our own history, and we cannot depend on others to teach it to our children when we are not aware of exactly what is taught when we are not present. It is a short list of who God looks to where children are concerned and it is not a village! Parents are the ones who answer to God for their children.

So where do we start today? We start by being grateful for the few liberties we we still have available to us and if we are truly grateful, we will use these liberties to the fullest. We will use the free press - the internet, and our right to freely assemble. We will use any platform God gives us. We will use everything we have to our advantage to restore our liberties and when we have exhausted those, men and women of honor will again rise up and will do what must be done.

May God have mercy on us,
HUP

Good post Hup but a bit of "The long way around the barn".
The way I see it God gave us 10 laws.
The US congress have given us (no typo here)over 6 million laws...that's right...over 6 million laws.
Think about this...what is a law, any law, if not the loss of a right you once had. A fine (revenue)or time in jail for something you once had a right to do!
I say beg the forgiveness of God for the few of his ten laws we may all have broken.
As for the 6 million laws of congress....
MAY THEY GO STRAIGHT TO HELL!
May God bless the rest of us...

Northwoods,
Yup, I can be wordy at times, but I like your expression about the barn as I have not heard that one before!
Really, Jesus said that all the laws could be summed up in "love the Lord thy God and love your neighbor as you love yourself" and if we did that we would not even have to worry about any more, even the big 10, but mankind being what it is we keep adding to it, sometimes out of need, clarification don't ya know, and sometimes out of greed.
But by golly I know congress is not my God and I don't think congress is my neighbor, so like you, I waste no time on loving there...
(Except for the good doctor of course, God bless him)
