Many are advising that we buy silver and gold lately, even the mainstream advisers. And I must say I have been tempted to do so, especially since I don't feel I can add too much to other preps as we are renting at present, but in reading the scriptures, I am again reminded that there are things that are even more advisable to pursue and attain.
Proverbs 8:10 tell us that we should receive instruction and not silver, knowledge rather than gold. Vs 11 tells us that wisdom is better than rubies and ALL the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it! The Lord tells us that wisdom cries out to all, even the simple and the fool. Wisdom speaks truth and in it you will find understanding, counsel and justice.
I have been listening to Atlas Shrugged again and I have been trying to discern exactly where Ms. Rand and I disagree and where we agree. I do agree with her moral premises, and yet she has been able to predict the world we now live in through following the choices people make to their natural conclusions. I think she was able to apprehend a good bit of truth and wisdom, especially where the man thinks in his heart and how this effects his actions, but I also think she misses the mark of true reality because she could not accept the fact that there are some things we cannot know except by direct revelation from God. She presents religion as being a tool in the hand of the looter and especially the moochers, which I do not think the scriptures support. The Word tells us that we should not cast our pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend us apart(Matthew 7:6) and that if any would not work, neither shall he eat (2Thessalonians 3:10). God teaches that we reap what we sow and He is the author of justice. So He would not support the moochers and we can be sure He would not support the Looter, ie Do not steal!
He is also the author of mercy and grace you may say. That is true, but unto whom does He grant that mercy and grace? He offers it to all, and He and bestows a limited amount unto all (God send the rain on the just and the unjust), but He does not grant His unlimited mercy and grace to all. He reserves that only for those who acknowledge Him and accept His terms. Just as those in Galt's gulch, reserve their friendship and brotherhood to those who choose to accept their terms. Galt recognizes a man's will, his choice, his self-determination as being the one thing that he cannot control, but he can see through the man's fruits -in how he conducts himself, if he is a candidate for joining the gulch group. And so Galt waits until the man (or woman) is ready, when they have reached the point where they can no longer reconcile their reality with true reality and they are open to embrace John's logical presentation of truth.
I wonder if that is what God does? Are we to be tolerant of unbelievers (and backsliders) in the hopes that they will come to their senses one day and join us? Yes I think so, but we should not allow them to become moochers or looters.
So often lately I hear, “well there's nothing we can do about it.” And in my mind I hear the echo, Who is John Galt?”
I have seen pictures of Ayn Rand with the former head of the fed and I wonder, did the goons decide to use the book to their advantage? Did they decide it would be a great play book? There are just too many similarities, with the exceptions of the gulch of course.
Just makes one wonder....

Hi, I love your blog. I am sure that instruction and wisdom are much more valuable than silver and gold. Did God not send Joseph into Egypt to enable his family to survive the great famine? A bit of silver and gold might help you and your family make it through if and when the dollar has no value... God Bless You : )
Deb,
Great post!
You said "I have been "listening" to Atlas Shrugged".
Is there a CD or something that you can actually "listen" to?
I recently loaned my copy to a friend but she has trouble reading the small print.
Hi Midwest,
Thanks so much for the comment and letting me know you're out there! It is hard not being able to add to our supplies in the "normal" way and I agree, some real money may be what we need to do, as well as aquire the true riches from the ONE who owns everything including wisdom.
Northwoods,
Yes there are two versions or should I say readers? of Atlas and you should be able to get it from the library in your area. I love to be able to listen while I work around the house or drive in the car. But it is still nice to have the book so that you can reference something you missed. I would recomment you get the unabridged edition. She was wordy, but she had a lot to say.

You know this might be bad to say, but I've never read those books that you've mentioned! Sounds like they really make you think, though!
Gen,
I don't agree with ALL of the things, but that is exacty it, it makes you think!
btw, your 5-8 post was great~
